Early morning updates from the fasting venue:

No. 153 LB rd, near Adayar Bus Depot,

Next to HDFC bank,

Thiruvanmiyur, Chennai

Chennai Satyagrahis have entered their 6th day and completed 144 hours of fasting. Many reported feeling weak and complained of body aches.

21 year-old Meril Chakravarthy, student of Visual Communication, Loyola college is on his 6th day. He said he felt a “bit down” but mentally agile. This young man, who hails from Madurai, said that his fasting had inspired other students and that he expected 500 Loyola students to come to visit him on Monday. Incidently, Meril also composed the IACChennai theme song. A hope-to-be filmmaker, this young man says that he is fasting because “I love India.”

In an interesting event, one of the satyagrahis, Chandra Mohan who had a blood sugar level of 55 demanded to participate in yesterday evening’s candlelight vigil. After the vigil his blood sugar level shot up to 63. When asked about this change, he said, that seeing the crowds of Chennai spill into the sands of Marina beach energized him. “This is what I had been waiting and hoping for,” he said. His blood sugar levels have been erratic through the fast.

A journalist is amongst those fasting. Jagadesh (30), requested press releases so that he could send them to his journalist friends. Several of his friends visited him at the venue. Jagadesh has been very tired and dazed.

Meanwhile, several friends and neighbours of 81-year-old AppaIndruvel from Virgumabakkam will be visiting him on Monday. They are also planning a neighbourhood march in his support.

18-year-old Arvind was found to have a dip in his blood sugar levels yesterday. The nurses monitored him through the day and the sugar levels rose to a safe level later in the evening.

Several Reiki practitioners, massage therapists have been ministering to the Satyagrahis to help them sustain the fast. Several local pharmacists have offered donations of free medicines and medical supplies for the fast.

A candlelight vigil is planned at Marina Beach at 6 pm.

I am an academic with interest in gender and intercultural communication, specifically on issues of marginalization of groups and individuals. While research is my first passion, I enjoy teaching greatly. Community work feeds my soul and keeps me alive.

I am all for civic participation in parliamentary processes and advocate for a strong Jan Lokpal bill. I find people's voices have been muted in this country and that We the People have to rise.

I hope for a corruption-free India and am here to do my bit to create one! Janlokpal Jaihind!
